Inspired By: Jack Antonoff of Bleachers

Don't you love when someone else's art influences your own?

Here's how it happened: The other day I was watching YouTube, as you do, when I got caught in a vortex of Jack Antonoff videos. I watched interviews, live performances, the whole shebang. But a neat thing happened (that often doesn't when I'm watching YouTube) - instead of feeling drained or restless, I felt inspired.

Sometimes another artist perfectly expresses what you were already thinking yourself. Someone who's been there, done that and can put words to what you've always known inside, but couldn't articulate. After learning more about Jack Antonoff's creative process, I realized that my own creative endeavors (namely writing) don't have to be about what others want or expect from me.

What we all need to do is just create the thing already,
even if no one else understands it. Create it for YOU.

This inspired me to sit down and write today without worrying about the audience who might one day read my words. I wrote for the joy of it, not the potential future success.

And that is how great art is made! But really, though.

What about you?

Has any artist inspired you in your creative journey?
Have you had any writing epiphanies lately? Tell me about it below!

    3. I just devour posts about creativity + people who talk about it on such a spiritual level... thank you for this.

    1. I'm so glad you liked it!! :) He is seriously the best. I just bought one of his records on vinyl yesterday because I've been so into his tunes. Yes, getting to know his back story just makes me appreciate what he's been through as a person and how it informs his music. Thank you so much for your sweet comment! Glad you liked the post. :)

  4. YES! Erin I know exactly about the moment you are talking about. It's something that just sits right with you when you hear someone else say it and you geek out for a nice while about it. Creating something that is only for you can be difficult, I struggle with it too, because there are so many other influences that get into your mind. I am happy for you and that creative burst you had!! <3

    1. I'm so glad you get this, too! I definitely geek out about music quite a bit. :) Of course, it's tough, that's why I have to keep reminding myself that I have to enjoy the creative process and what I'm making. For me, art has to come from a true place of inspiration for it to be worth sharing with ohters. Thank you so much! I hope you have a great rest of your weekend, Vanessa! :)

  6. The photo edit is so great.
I started to publish my photography when my friend showed me one girl online (I wish I remembered her name now) who amazed me with her art. She has no idea, but she gave me courage.
